Tricel Tero

Tricel Tero

The Tricel Tero is a compact tertiary wastewater treatment unit that provides advanced effluent polishing after a primary treatment plant, such as the Tricel Novo. Its plug‑and‑play modular setup is ideal for sites with high water tables, rocky terrain, or limited space, supporting up to one module per household (6 PE) and scalable with additional units for larger capacities.  With simple installation, minimal upkeep (no desludging required), and an above-ground shallow footprint, the Tero is an eco‑friendly, low‑maintenance solution for achieving high-quality wastewater discharge.

European Certification Requirements

All Tricel wastewater treatment plants have been tested to European certification EN 12566-3.
Designed with a natural coconut‑coir filter, it enhances biological, chemical, and physical treatment to achieve excellent E. coli reduction—below 1,000 cfu/100 ml, meeting stringent EPA and EN12566‑7 standards.

How the Tricel Tero works

The Tricel Tero operates as a pressurised tertiary filter system that enhances effluent quality from a secondary wastewater treatment plant:

  1. Effluent delivery

    • Treated wastewater is pumped (via the Tricel Novo or a separate pump chamber) into the Tero module's inlet.

  2. Even distribution

    • Inside, a low-pressure pipe network spreads the flow evenly across the top of the coconut-fibre (coir) filter media.

  3. Filtration through coconut fibre

    • As water percolates down, it undergoes biological, chemical, and physical purification by the coconut media. This natural process effectively removes bacteria (notably E. coli), suspended solids, BOD, and nutrients.

  4. Final discharge

    • Cleaned effluent exits through outlets at the module's base and is discharged to a percolation area or soil polishing filter.

  5. Low-maintenance design

    • No chemicals or electricity are used within Tero. The coconut media typically lasts 5–10 years, with annual servicing recommended to ensure optimal performance (clearing blockages, checking media levels, inspecting pipework).

Through this efficient, natural filtration, the Tero achieves tertiary‑level effluent, reducing E. coli to below 1,000 cfu/100 ml (EPA/EN12566-7 compliant) while minimizing space and upkeep needs.
